Tips for Getting Your Kids to Cooperate During a Photoshoot
Family photoshoots are a great way to capture memories and create lasting keepsakes. However, getting your kids to cooperate during a photoshoot can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help you get your kids to cooperate and make your family photoshoot a success.
- Plan Ahead Before the photoshoot, take the time to plan ahead. Make sure your kids are well-rested, fed, and have gone to the bathroom before the photoshoot. Bring snacks, water, and any other items your kids might need to feel comfortable during the photoshoot.
- Communicate with Your Kids Communicate with your kids before the photoshoot to let them know what to expect. Explain that the photographer will be taking pictures of the family and ask them to be on their best behavior. Let them know that there will be breaks and that they can play and have fun in between photos. Tell them my name (Jessica) so they get familiar with it and it's not just meeting a stranger.
- Bring Props and Toys Bring props and toys to the photoshoot to keep your kids entertained and engaged. Consider bringing a favorite toy to keep your kids occupied during the shoot. The photographer can also incorporate these props into the photos to create a fun and playful atmosphere. I often carry bubbles, stickers, small toys, noise makers, and prizes to keep your childrens interest and make it fun :)
- Let Them Be Themselves Allow your kids to be themselves during the photoshoot. Encourage them to be silly, make faces, and have fun. Candid shots often capture the most natural and genuine moments, so don't be afraid to let your kids be themselves and have fun during the photoshoot. Honestly, these will be the ones you look back on and cherish. The posed perfect family photo may go on the Christmas cards or in a frame but your little one making a funny face or just being so themselves in a photo is going to be the one you love.
- Keep It Positive Keep the atmosphere positive and upbeat. Praise your kids for their cooperation and participation, and avoid getting frustrated or upset if things don't go according to plan. Remember, family photoshoots should be a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Getting your kids to cooperate during a family photoshoot can be a challenge, but with a little planning and communication, you can make it a success. Bring props and toys, let your kids be themselves, and keep the atmosphere positive and fun. By following these tips, you'll be able to capture lasting memories and create beautiful family photos that you and your family will cherish for years to come.
